PROCLAMATION 1948 Protest for the attempt against S. Venizelos
In March 1948, Sophocles Venizelos (Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party) toured Crete and on March 21 he was to attend the memorial service for his father (for the 12th anniversary of his death) in Chania. On March 19, S. Venizelos' motorcade was fired upon in the province of Apokoronas on its way to Chania. A notice was published in the local newspapers for a protest about the attempt, in Eleftherias Square in Heraklion. A sample of this notice is the present one.
At the bottom it reads:
In Heraklion on March 20, 1948
THE COMMITTEE
CHIEF OF THE NATIONAL RESISTANCE OF CRETE
CAPTAIN EMM. BANDOUVAS
